WooCommerce Product Blocks | A quick guide on how to use themWritten by: zacbanas on September 14, 2019
WooCommerce Product Blocks are a feature plugin, which is similar to being in a beta testing phase. These blocks are available for use with WordPress 5.0 and higher assuming you have Gutenberg Blocks enabled. So if you have Classic Editor installed, this won’t work for you.
Contrary to popular opinion, I am a big fan of Gutenberg Blocks and this new block by WooCommerce is freaking awesome. To put it bluntly, WooCommerce code is a mess, so WooCommerce Product Blocks are a great step towards making their product much more simple to use.
WooCommerce Product Blocks are only available if you meet the following minimum requirements:
- WooCommerce 3.7+
- WordPress 5.0.x
- PHP 5.6+
Product Blocks Usage
To display all of the above you simply go to a Gutenbergable page, click on the notorious + sign and scroll down to WooCommerce.
Click on one of the choices and from there it’s very self-explanatory.
You can show your site visitors the following products and product groupings:
- Featured products in a new, high impact display
- Featured category
- Hand-picked products
- New products
- On-sale products
- Products by tag(s)
- Products with specific attributes or terms
- Products from specific categories via a new stand-alone block
- Product categories list
- Top-rated products
These product blocks completely replace the need for any generic WooCommerce coding you may have needed to be done in the past. However, for more custom functionality you should still dive into the backend as this plugin only offers standard functionality for displaying products.
This feature allows greater ease-of-use to both technical and non-technical users alike. As a result, I believe WooCommerce Product Blocks are a great step forward in the WordPress ecosphere. I for one will be using this feature in my very own business ventures (Corny T-Shirts).
